Welcome to Student Industrial Training Programme |
|
All EM 220 and EM 221 students are required to undergo a practical training for a minimum period of ten weeks. Students with working experiences before enrolling into these programmes are also required to take part in industrial training. The faculty has appointed a Coordinator of Industrial Training (CIT) to assist the students in the application process.
Normally, the process for undergoing an industrial training starts at the beginning of each semester. A talk will be organised by the coordinator to initiate the beginning of an "application period" which will last for a month. Students as early as in semester 4, are encouraged to apply for industrial training even though the actual industrial training will be conducted after the student completing semester 5. Students have to fill up an industrial training application form available at the faculty's office. In the application form, they have to list down at least three company names including address and contact persons that they are interested to do their industrial training. Then, the coordinator will send a formal application letter with the faculty's letter head to the listed companies. Students are advised to check their application status through the Industrial Training Notice Board located in front of the faculty's main office at level 9 regularly. For unsuccessful applications, the students have to reapply to other companies. Students who have successfully secured a place for an industrial training, another talk will be conducted to inform the students about the rules and regulations while attending the training. During the talk, students have the opportunity to ask and get all the information that they need. All the essential material such as a log book and evaluation forms will be distributed to each of the students during the talk.
At the end of the industrial training, students are required to submit a full report, which contains detailed job description carried out by them. The students are also expected to record all their daily activities during the training in the log book given to them. Faculty staff will be monitoring the students during the training sessions to assess the suitability of the training programme to the curriculum. Assessment for the industrial training will be based on the students' industrial training report and logbook, report form their supervisor and evaluation report from the lecturer who visited them during the training period. For off-campus students, practical training is not required since they are already exposed to the working environment. |
